The government of Fujian province recently issued a subsidy plan for construction and upgrading of rural roads, Fuzhou Daily reported on Thursday.
Planned rural roads in the province combine for a length of about 126,000 kilometers, and 83,000 km of them are in use.
Construction of roads in counties, townships and villages is supposed to comply with standards of level 3, level 4 (double lane) and level 4 (single lane), respectively. The government will not subsidize any substandard roads.
The plan also said it will increase financial support for construction of rural roads that are based on higher standards.
Crash barriers, reflectors and traffic signs must be installed on all rural roads, and passing bays should be built along single-lane level 4 roads, according to the plan.
Rural roads above level 4 are also encouraged to add passing bays, with subsidies ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 yuan ($480 to $800).
